No Ads November 2024 (UPDATED: ongoing!)

For the month of November, PortableApps.com will have no ads. As many of you know, we had quite a few issues with our last ads provider. It resulted in accessibility issues, site slowdowns, breaking pages, etc. Behind the scenes, it also impacted digital certificate auto-renewals and some other minor bits. While the ad revenue was high initially, it declined as I turned off the most intrusive behaviors to wind up at the same lower level we were at before trying it.

PortableApps.com owner Rare Ideas, LLC is selling the premium domain name NovelDesign.com to help pay down some PortableApps.com related debts and to help fund operations. It is being sold by the original owner who purchased it Aug 24, 1999. It would make a great name for a design studio, fashion house, or many other businesses. It's available for auction via Sedo.com with the auction ending Monday Apr 29, 2024, 12:20:59 PM EDT.

Full Set of Legacy Apps Available On Site and In PortableApps.com Platform

We're happy to announce that our full set of legacy portable app packages is now available in the PortableApps.com Platform's App Store. As apps continue to drop support for 32-bit Windows and legacy versions of Windows, we've been creating legacy packages to make apps available as broadly as possible. That way, a Windows 7 or Windows 10 32-bit user can still easily download and install the last compatible version of the Krita sketch and painting app since the current version requires Windows 8.1/10/11 64-bit. And it's automatic. The Platform will show you the appropriate apps for your current version of Windows by default, and you can select to view all of them in Options.

We're happy to announce that we now accept donations via wire transfer in multiple currencies around the world. I know everyone has been requesting this for a while and we finally have a way to do it that makes sense financially. We can now accept Euro, Australian Dollars, British Pounds, Canadian Dollars, Hungarian Forints, New Zealand Dollar, Romanian leu, Singapore Dollars, and Turkish lira via wire transfer.

Downloads From PortableApps.com Working Again

Previously, we posted that Google Safe Browsing Is Incorrectly Blocking All Downloads From PortableApps.com. Google has still not responded despite it being longer than their 72hr promised turnaround. In researching and testing, it seems that based on a single false positive in a single file, Google Safe Browsing blocked all downloads being passed through our site's redirector which keeps stats on how many downloads of each app occur.

Google Safe Browsing is currently blocking all downloads from PortableApps.com. The example file containing malware is GoogleChromePortable_103.0.5060.134_online.paf.exe which is verifiably not malware according to VirusTotal, another Google property. This file has false positive detections in Jiangmin, Antiy-AVL, and Malwarebytes. Antiy-AVL and Malwarebytes have been informed of their issue.

Adding 12 More Languages To Firefox, Thunderbird, and SeaMonkey Builds

We're happy to announce that we've added 12 more languages to builds of the Mozilla apps, expanding access to hundreds of millions more users. We cut down on unused languages for the Beta, Dev, ESR, and Nightly channels to free up build time and have now added Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Finnish, Greek, Lithuanian, Norwegian (Bokmål), Norwegian (Nynorsk), Serbian, Swedish, Thai, and Vietnamese to all 3 apps where available.

How to upgrade the platform manually to fix issues with connectivity and corruption

Some users have had issues here and there when upgrading the PortableApps.com Platform. Most recently when the platform switched to https-only connections before we added in the ability to fall back to http on some machines. If you've come across an issue, you can manually upgrade the PortableApps.com Platform which should fix most of your issues. Our apologies for the folks affected.
