Q. Can I select which pieces of OpenOffice.org to install (word processor, spreadsheet)?
A. No. Unlike other office suites, OpenOffice.org is really one big program that does multiple things (word processor, spreadsheet, etc). Leaving out some of the other functions only really leaves out help files for that program and a few files. It doesn't actually save much space.
Q. OpenOffice.org Portable is not available in my own language. What do You need to publish it?
A. At first there must be a localized version of OpenOffice.org. Second we need the Installer and Launcher language files translated in the requested language. Please look here if this job is allready done, if not please post a translation for this files or a link to the translated files.

Has Open Office Fallen Well Behind Libre Office ?

This is not strictly a portable versions query, but rather I think it must be something core to these respective programs.

I have and have used both of these suites for quite some time. (Because I like to have available alternatives on hand in many cases, rather than relying on just a single program in a given category.) But this will refer to the most recent portable versions of each. Another possible way of stating the Subject Header above would be, "Has Something Fundamentally Changed in Open Office and How It Works in Handling Spreadsheets ?" I have a number of longstanding database type spreadsheets (descriptive lists, covering pertinent info of one sort or another), which are maintained by an associate for me. They are saved as both .XLS format (rather than MicroSoft's subsequent .XLSX format), and in some cases also in the native Open Office format. (.OSD ? I don't recall the name precisely.) When I try to open any of them now in Open Office, what I see onscreen I would describe as useless gibberish. I don't know if there is any facility for uploading screenshots to the forum, but if necessary I could Copy & Paste a sample from this. Anyway, in stark contrast, if I instead open any of these spreadsheets in Libre Office, I will still see just what was expected: all the Rows, Columns, and proper data within -- fully intact. Rendered properly in the latter suite, but not at all in the former.

I guess the obvious, short answer is: "Then just use Libre Office, instead." But I'm left wondering whether some key standards may have changed somewhere along the way, with Open Office just not keeping pace ? If anyone seeing this is sufficiently familiar with the spreadsheet module of both suites -- maybe even down to a development level -- perhaps they could shed some light on this ? It does present a rather glaring discrepancy.

Hello, can following be solved?

I have 2 users logged in simultaneously on my PC - me and another user (with a different install location of PortableApps) - and I can not launch OpenOfficeWriterPortable.exe, while LibreOfficePortable.exe is running on another user. I can launch D:\Apps\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\program\swriter.exe (or soffice.exe) without issues though - so it's only about the Portable.exe launcher. Do I need to un-lock is somewhere? Thanks.

Trying to get OOBase to work on an older tablet with 32-bit Windows 8.1,
Installed JRE 1.8.0.301,
went to set up the runtime environment path
selected Programs > Java > jre 1.8.0_301
Dialog box informs me: The folder you selected does not contain a Java runtime environment. Please select a different folder.

How to proceed?

¿Should I accept, or I must wait until the new version is available in Portable apps?

Hi Sirs,

If anyone needs legal advice from one of you guys, can anyone help? I am really amazed and believe that open source is a much humane way of doing business but it seems that I am plagued by unknown people everytime I am trying to use Portableapps.

I am ready to let any of you to let in to all my private logs in all my devices and see if something illegal and against our legal right to do open source and promote the same. Maybe it's time that we can promote this right as a community?

OpenOffice config error on start after upgrade

Hi,

After upgrading my OpenOffice Suite on the server to the latest version of 01-07-2019, I'm getting the following error on run:
"A general a error occurred while accessing your central configuration".

I tried removing & reinstalling the Suite, but I'm still getting the same error. Installing it onto a different/local drive will get me a working Suite.

I checked my user profile on C:\, but cannot find anything that would keep the Suite running from the original location on my server.
If there's some config files hiding somewhere outside the portableapps folders on the server, I'm all ears.

A search on Google etc. did find the error, but no real solutions so far, so I'm hoping someone can help out here.

I'm usually pretty patient and know how to just wait -- I do appreciate that packers are busy with other things and so on. But 4.1.6 was released by Apache in November 2018 and still no release from Portable Apps. Please can someone pack it and release it. I suppose I think that given that Apache don't do many new releases of OO then just a bit of effort now and that will be that for several months.

No Select-and-Say in Dragon NaturallySpeaking

Dragon NaturallySpeaking has Select-and-Say functionality on the installed version (in Writer at least), but not the portable version. Would it possible to do this for this portable version as well? Not having this functionality is a huge hurdle for people who rely on Dragon to dictate text or operate their computer. Apparently it has something to do with window classes. PS Select-and-Say basically means Dragon can recognize words in the document allowing the speaker to utter one simple voice command which can select a word or bunch of words, insert the cursor before/after a given word, or even copy, cut or delete a whole section of text (eg. "select <word1> through <word2>" [selects all text between and including <word1> and <word2>] or "insert before <word>" [places the cursor before <word>]. It also allows the speaker to drill through menus using voice commands. Without it, editing or is much slower and tedious and menus can be laborious. I can provide more details or examples if needed.

This was not a "Portable Apps" issue. It turns out to have been a customisation (Event driven) issue which I'd already encountered and solved in the existing system.

PortableOpenOffice installed as:
D:\PortableApps\aOO-4.1.5\App\openoffice\program
PortableJava installed too where recommended.

When running D:\PortableApps\aOO-4.1.5\App\openoffice\program\python.exe interpreter, OpenOffice Python modules can't be imported e.g.
>>> import officehelper # is failing

Reason: " D:\PortableApps\aOO-4.1.5\App\openoffice\program " should be part of sys.path by default :
>>> import sys
>>> sys.path
