Portable App Development

I want to make a very simple app called Nettime 3.20 alfa (https://www.timesynctool.com). During the installation the program only copies its files to the standard Program Files (x86) folder and (after changing anything in its config in the program itself) adds this configuration to "HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Subjective Software\NetTime" section. I do not install its service, so nothing else happens.

Isn't it possible to just hexedit the exe of a particular app to set the values/settings it would normally check in the reg or have it read them from an INI? Perhaps add some custom asm functions if necessary? Any reason why people don't?

Outdated Official Portable Applications always claims "Pre-Releases and Other Test Versions" are "None" even though Test Releases is full of programs.

The last entry in that page is from 2019 and none of the comments get any reply, so why encouraging developers to submit new programs if they have zero chance to get accepted and also no chance to even get listed?

If I try to create a launcher for a folder like C:\Users\[user]\Documents\test this\PortableApps\something (note test this) then it fails (complaining about the name= of the program and if I also remove spaces from the name= then it complains about the folder itself).

But if all I do is create a symlink to it from c:\something and run the launcher on it then it works perfectly.

Could you make sure it supports long name folders with spaces?
